THIS IS THE GUY!

Did you ever find yourself combing the back streets of memory trying to remember where in your life you had known someone before? Someone whose face, or tone of voice, or singular selfishness stirs vague but incomplete tremors of recognition? Such is the frustrating mental dance I experience time and time again with Donald J. Trump. But then, yesterday, like a bolt of lightning reaching from the sky, the answer struck me in a blinding flash.

This is the guy!

This is the guy too lazy to ever do his homework back in grade school, preferring to bully the smaller, brainier kids into letting him copy theirs. This is the boss’ son, unlikeable and blind to his own failings, who lords his family connections over fellow workers like a badge of entitlement, as if DNA far outweighs the value of competence and performance.  This is the millionaire’s son who feels qualified to criticize America’s fallen soldiers as “suckers” and “losers,” even though his wartime medical deferment was a lie paid for by his father.

This is the guy!

This is the accountant whose embezzlement bankrupts his employer’s company. This is the big kid who sat behind you during a test and demanded the answers to questions three and five. This is the snitch whose lies ruin reputations, destroy lives and send innocent people to jail. This is the cashier who repeatedly shortchanges his customers. And the sales clerk who steals and sells his customers’ credit card information. This is the coward who only joins in a fight when the winning side is certain beyond doubt. And the president who lies about the severity and dangers of a pandemic to make himself look good; even though those lies may lead to thousands of unnecessary deaths.

This is the guy!

And, yes, this is the guy who pays others to take his tests. The businessman who refuses to pay his contractors, the father who never remembers his children’s birthdays, the husband who has an affair with a porn star while his wife is pregnant, the president who tells over 30,000 lies during the brief span of his single term in office. This is the president who breaks every precedent for presidential behavior, then cries “political persecution!” when he faces unprecedented legal consequences.

This is the guy!

And lastly, this is the guy who indulges whims as if they were imperatives, cheating on his wives, cheating on his taxes, sexually assaulting women when the fancy strikes him, lying about his wealth to prove his penis longer than the next billionaire’s.  This is the guy who believes in a Jesus who never turns the other cheek or forgets a grievance. The guy whose charity extends no farther than the outskirts of his own best interests. This is the president who could not walk away from the presidency without dismantling the underpinnings of our democracy. The president who believes his single election victory gave him lifetime possession of the trappings of his office and its almost imperial prerogatives.

This is the guy who almost single-handedly put an end to 245 years of the American experiment.

THIS IS THE GUY!

IS THE GOP A DOMESTIC TERRORIST ORGANIZATION?

Still scary, still a threat!

Have you ever wondered why the United States, among all other leading industrialized nations, has never been able to progress beyond the fears and divisions that have paralyzed its political body and hindered social progress for decades…?

Are you wondering today why we are once again struggling to protect a woman’s right to personal privacy and self-made choices about her body? Or perhaps you’re asking who it is that repeatedly stymies every sensible effort to protect our children from armed gunmen with military-style weapons? Or maybe you’re wondering how come racism, white supremacy and policies stitched from hate, lies and fears have become acceptable political discourse?

And lastly, if you are like me, you find yourself in a state of shock and disbelief that an American politician attempted a coup d’etat to overthrow the duly elected government of the United States. Not only did he send an armed and bloodthirsty crowd to the capitol to kill or harm our elected legislators, but his co-conspirators and enablers now stand before us and blithely lie about what happened on that fateful day. Sensing a handle by which they can gain or hold onto power, they distort, minimize or defend an act that tears at the fabric of our constitution, all the while cloaking themselves in the protective aura of our flag and the protected speech of an American political party. A party that once stood for America’s principles, but now embodies the disgrace and stain of treason.

Is it time to wake up to the fact that today’s Republican Party, faced with declining demographics and a bleak future, has turned to the politics of hate, fear and division to stay in power. No longer is it enough to gerrymander voting maps, or repress minority voters, to maintain their position of prominence. Now they must reject the result of fair elections and prepare to steal votes themselves.

Is it time to face up to the impact of a party that, like the Nazis in 1930’s Germany, poses a monumental threat to the continued peace, prosperity and harmony of its homeland?

Perhaps, it is time to ask whether it is time to declare the Republican Party a domestic terrorism organization.

And to treat it like the threat it has become.

An existential threat.

THE CORONATION OF DONALD J. TRUMP

The King of Buffoons

THERE ARE STRANGE DEEDS RECORDED

About the men who toil For Gold

In the halls of Washington D.C.

Where honor is twice daily sold;

But the strangest sight I ever did see

Was the day folks stormed the house of liberty

To resurrect the man voters had dumped

And to crown the head of Donald J. Trump

NOW, DONALD J. TRUMP

Hailed from New York City,

Where the buildings they say

Grow tall and quite pretty

Why he left the Big Apple,

No one could say

‘Cept he needed more suckers,

And more games to play.

So he dialed up the Russians,

And the boss they called Vlad,

And he promised his soul

For any dirt on Hillary they had.

ON A COLD DAY IN HELL,

Or maybe it was in January

Donald J. Trump was sworn in

And handed the US presidency.

His first words were lies,

With the bIble under his hand,

He swore to protect the Constitution

And the laws of this great land.

He never mentioned the exception

That was echoing in his mind:

“Unless it serves my interests,

Then I’ll pay them no more mind.”

THAT WAS THE FIRST OF MANY LIES

Donald J. Trump told on a daily basis

Never mattering to him at all

If facts were true or totally baseless

He recruited Fox News

Home of soulless media hacks

To echo his falsehoods daily

And cover over his criminal tracks

No matter what lies he told or what

Their immediate impacts might be

Murdoch and sons would parrot them

And claim real news legitimacy.

IN THE END, NOW, WHO CAN SAY

Whose interests were served that day

By Donald J. Trump’s desecration

of the U.S. presidency?

Never has one president

So bankrupted treasury and soul

Turning neighbor against neighbor,

Forcing allies to depart the fold.

Was this the payment Vlad required

To help Donald J. Trump win his race?

Is this why American excellence

Disappeared without a trace?

IN ONE SHORT TERM

What accomplishments

behind him he had trailed!

A packed Supreme Court, two impeachments and hundreds of insurrectionists jailed.

An empty treasury, one failed insurrection

And a lifetime of litigation

For the DOJ’s retrospection.

His was the first American Coup

But maybe not the last

It depends on whether his run is through

Or whether his grift runs out of gas.

YES, STRANGE DEEDS ARE RECORDED

About the men who toil For Gold

In the halls of Washington D.C.

Where honor is twice daily sold;

But the strangest deed that was never to be

Was the crowning of the Man Who Lives in Infamy

Down through the ages his story will be known,

Treachery will be his legacy,

And treason his thorny crown.

DUMP THE TRUMP SLOWLY

Did you raise your banner high?

TELL ME, DOES THE BATTLE GO APACE,

Did you stop all abortions, and

Put women back in their place

Did you raise your banner high above

The battle-scarred field of play

Did you kiss the golden statue’s ass

For another four years did you pray?

OH HOW YOU TORE DOWN SACRED PILLARS

And the mightiest of yews,

Desecrate all monuments and statues

Never dedicated to you

Did you kiss the golden ass, tear up

Hallowed Constitutions too

Did you dump the Trump too slowly

Before the Trump could dump on you?

DUMP THE TRUMP SLOWLY, PAY THE PIPER SURELY

To jail be returning, from jail does he call

No longer a proud boy, so much a mere loud boy

Watch the Earth drop away

From beneath your patriot’s ground

Above and below you,

A world without sound.

DID YOU ANSWER THE CALL TO MOB UP AND RIOT

Did you heed his lies, each one did you buy it

Are you facing a life looking scary and cold

With a future in prison long after you’re old

Did you Dump the Trump too slowly

Did you close your eyes too late

Now the Trump is dumping you

Not for a moment wIll he hesitate.

DUMP THE TRUMP SLOWLY, PAY THE PIPER SURELY

You politicians, sycophants and liars without end

Your party is over, your elephant sadly dead

No longer worth a vote, your honor surely fled

Watch the Earth drop away

From beneath your patriot’s ground

Above and below you,

A world without sound.

DID YOU DUMP THE TRUMP TOO SLOWLY

Did you close your eyes too late

Now the Trump is dumping you

Not for a moment will he hesitate.

POPS ON TRUMP, SORT OF.

My grandfather, Pops we call him, asked me to write this post on account of he is too upset to say the things he wants to say.

First thing he would tell you, if he wasn’t too upset to talk, is that Vladimir Putin won.  By that, Pops means that Mr. Putin, the dictator of Russia, set certain forces in motion that have resulted in a seriously weakened and humbled American adversary.

An America divided as it has never been divided before.

By that he means an America that has lost its way, lost its north star as the moral leader of the free world, only to fall beneath the shadow of greed, hate and self-adulation as they morphed into the earthbound guise of morally bankrupt Donald J. Trump.

“How did Americans become so dumb?” Pops repeatedly asks of anyone who will listen. “And when will the 40% that foolishly believe in Trump, who stupidly believe he cares about anyone other than himself—When will they get wise?”

What he means, is when will Trump’s supporters see that it was all a lie? From the smallest detail of Trump’s fabricated legend as a business genius, to the traitorous porkers he told when he and his Republican co-conspirators tried to steal an election and kill our constitution? Lies they are still repeating!

“Yes, Putin won!” Pops likes to repeatedly point out. “How many Americans died unnecessarily because Putin helped elect Trump? How many died because Trump and his Republican cohorts grievously mishandled Covid-19? How many still have to die because Republican governors and politicians will carry Trump’s water and stupidly treat Covid like something to be ignored?

Pops is too upset, like I said, and so he cannot say the one thing that makes him really crazy.

“What the hell is Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice waiting for, goddammit?” Pops would say, spittle flying everywhere. “The longer they delay in charging Trump and Company with sedition for their failed coup d’etat, the more trouble, division, lies and overall bad behavior Trump and crew will stir up.”

Which means it’s a bad idea not to quickly punish Trump for turning the presidency of the United States into a shoddy favors-for-pay clearinghouse and sub-agent of both Russia and the Trump Organization.

If you ask me, my Pops knows what he’s talking about.
